Overseas garage recruitment can deliver “mindset shift,” says Easy2Recruit
The Garage Sheffield says recruiting an experienced overseas technician improved workshop culture, increased productive capacity and gave the business confidence to expand.

Easy2Recruit has advised garages that overseas recruitment can create a wider change in workshop mindset, improving productivity and giving owners the confidence to pursue expansion. The recruitment specialist presented the experience of The Garage Sheffield as an example of how the right appointment can deliver more than additional labour capacity.
The independent 11-ramp workshop recruited Tapiwa Chimbwanda, a senior multi-brand technician and Volkswagen specialist from South Africa, through Easy2Recruit. The business had been dealing with the same technician shortage affecting many independent repairers, where difficult recruitment can limit the amount of work a team accepts and restrict plans for growth.
Owner Ryan Tandy said Chimbwanda’s attitude and work ethic quickly became a positive influence. Jobs were approached consistently and without complaint, helping establish a higher standard across the workshop. The effect was not limited to the technician’s own output; it changed expectations around reliability and how the whole team approached its workload.
Before the appointment, the shortage of skilled people had made the business feel pressure to tolerate behaviour it might otherwise challenge because replacing a technician seemed so difficult. With a capable and committed team member in place, management could spend less time worrying about resistance to particular jobs or uncertainty over attendance and more time running the operation properly.
Tandy initially expected international recruitment to be complicated, but found the process more straightforward than anticipated. His priority was to secure someone skilled and dependable. He expects the financial investment to be recovered comfortably within a year through the extra work the workshop can now complete, although he considers the greater benefit to be the stability that enables confident planning.
Easy2Recruit supplied CVs and candidate videos before suitable applicants were shortlisted and interviewed remotely. Chimbwanda completed his interview on a Thursday and began work the following Tuesday, demonstrating how quickly the final stage could move once the business had selected the right person.
The Garage Sheffield is now planning to recruit a second overseas technician. The additional capacity will support a move into an adjoining unit and allow the business to grow from 11 workshop ramps to 14, turning a successful appointment into a practical expansion opportunity.
Ambi Singh, founder of Easy2Recruit, said the value of the right hire reaches beyond filling an empty position. A business that gains both technical capability and consistent performance can operate with greater confidence, accept more work and make longer-term growth decisions.
For The Garage Sheffield, overseas recruitment has therefore become an ongoing workforce route rather than a one-off response. The case illustrates how a reliable appointment can influence culture, restore operational control and give an independent workshop the stability needed to invest in its next stage.
